Health & Welfare
TONY SANTAMAURA stated that SHIRLEY FARLINGER would like to see more Rotary visitors, and that she is looking forward to the next Bridge game. -
PRESIDENT WALTER was in the chair.
-
Community Service
- JOANNE SMITH reported that the 'Shirley Fund' Foundation has received $1,300 to start, and members are encouraged to make further contributions.
- JOANNE solicited club approval for a $3,000 donation to the Metropolitan United Church Lunch Program. Joanne's committee has only dispersed $9,000 this Rotary year so far. -
SANDY LOWDEN was presented with his second Paul Harris pin by President Walter.
-
WALTER WELLS reminded us that we have just one more week to sign up as hosts or guests for the May 29/30/31 Home Hosting dinner night. He also indicated that an upcoming survey monkey will be asking us to rank other fellowship opportunities.
-
JOHN MCINTOSH told us that only 56% (based on a total of 62) of club members made the traditional $100 donation to the foundation on the occasion of their birthday.
-
JOHN MCINTOSH received the club's endorsement to donate $3,500 to top up the Robertson Fund to $60,000 to be administered by the U of T for medical student scholarship support.
-
JOHN also reported that the Foundation is in good shape, and that he is stepping down to devote more time to the chairmanship of TRAILS. While he will remain on the Foundation board for a transition year, WALTER WELLS will take over his responsibilities 1 July.
-
LARS HENRIKSSON’s membership report was interrupted by a phone call with Paul Harris, who was surprised to learn that there are now 1.2 million Rotarians in 34,000 clubs (more than there are McDonalds franchises). Membership growth is all our responsibility, not just the committee.
-
JOHN AGNEW reported that SUM CHEUNG has made the website revisions and they are now soliciting photos to add. John welcomes new members to his PR committee.
-
JAYNE GRESHAM mentioned that the Harvest Wagon flowers are available to be picked up, and thanked GEORGE HEINTZMAN for his help with this initiative. While only $255.20 was raised so far, we have started to engage with businesses near our club. JAYNE also announced that she will take over running the Bridge Club next year.
-
The PATTERSONS provided a verbal Treasurer's report, reassuring us all that our finances are in good hands. KEITH PATTERSON marvelled again how our $7,500 was parlayed into $301,000 for the Rift Valley project, which recently passed an RI project audit.
-
MIKE HAZELL indicated that we have two outbound RLYLA participants.
-
HAPPY BUCKS -
- SANDY LOWDEN has seen three generations of his family attend North Toronto Collegiate.
- GEORGE HEINTZMAN was happy to have someone as hardworking as JAYNE GRESHAM in our club stepping up to try a new fundraising project with one of the Yonge Street businesses near our club, the Harvest Wagon flower shop.
- JEFF NOEL reminded us that this is Emergency Preparedness Week when we should be taking steps to respond to disasters that could interrupt our lives.
- MIRIAM ROGERS paid $100 Happy Bucks as her belated birthday annual contribution to the Rotary Foundation.
