  • KATHRYN HOPE did the Rotary minute on Brushamania. For over a decade, Brushamania, a Rotary initiative based in Toronto, has grown to incorporate 180 schools representing over 55,000 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. This year, packing day will be March 19 while April 9 will be Oral Health Day. If you are interested in getting involved, WARREN MORRIS is the club lead.
  • HAPPY BUCKS: DOCTOR DOUG for his and his child bride’s 52nd anniversary. With tears in his eyes, he begged for forgiveness and said what a saint Pat is. (We have all known that for a long time); DAVE SAMPSON for being in Miami and taking his grandkids to hockey while he was down there; RON WILD for taking part in the Artists’ Project Show; ROBERT GOODING for getting healthy and losing 30 pounds (I think I know who found them).

Speaker of the week

JOANNE SMITH introduced the speaker, David Locket, co-chair of PACT, a charter member of the Parkdale Rotary club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. David mentioned that the government is not moving forward in looking after its most needy citizens and that there is a greater need than ever for organizations such as PACT. He said that PACT is part of the Urban Peace Initiative and takes an integrated approach for their 11 programs. One program discussed is life planning coaching for teens at risk. This is one-to-one mentoring and has been so successful that Rotary International has made a film of it and will be showing it at the International Convention in June in Montreal. David made a call to action for Rotary to get behind all 11 programs ($60,000, which is 20% of the PACT budget, was donated by Rotary). He said that a strong PACT can attract new young members to Rotary.

BOB VERNON thanked the speaker.

50/50 Draw: RAE COWAN won the bottle of wine for the second week in a row.
