A number of important talks and presentations were made today.
Our Outgoing Rotary Exchange Student Haley Firsker, accompanied
by her mother Freda, honoured us with a farewell visit. She
is on her way to Argentina for a year. The Firsker family had
hosted an Argentinean student ten years ago and this prompted
Haley’s interest in going to Argentina.
-
Kathleen Coswell of the Etobicoke club reminded us of the upcoming
District Conference, October 19th to 21st at the Doubletree
International Plaza Hotel with notable keynote speaker
Justin Trudeau. Updated brochures were available.
-
JOHN BONNICK made a presentation of a scholarship,
in honour of his late wife, to George Brown College student
Tiana Mohamed.
-
PRESIDENT JACKIE talked about our upcoming
Group Study Exchange with Siberia.
-
KATHRYN HOPE
mentioned that our incoming exchange student from Japan will
be visiting us next week. Kathryn also mentioned that she needs
help with Bingo.
Speaker
of the Week
Al
Schaafsma, Assistant District Governor, introduced our speaker and
current District Governor, Lynda Ryder. Lynda spoke eloquently about
“service” and how service is an honour. We learned about
Lynda’s history and her driving force to build consensus and
boost morale. She is determined to visit all 55 clubs in our district
(District 7070) and Toronto Eglinton was the 35th club that she
had visited. Lynda spoke highly of our District heroes, including
Wilf Wilkinson, Bob Scott and our own RON DENHAM.
She reiterated Wilf’s goals for his year as President of Rotary
International, namely, Water, Polio Plus, and Literacy.
Membership
has also become an important issue, with our own LARS HENRIKSSON
chairing the Membership Committee. Lynda also mentioned the upcoming
Foundation Walk which has been renamed “Wilf’s Walk.”
PRESIDENT
JACKIE thanked the speaker.
Draw:
There was no
