Announcements:

PRESIDENT
JACKIE presided.
-
Congratulations
to our newest member GORDON FLOYD who was inducted
and to JAYNE GRESHAM for sponsoring him.
-
The
Governor’s Cup was played at
the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course (named after my cubicle
at work) on August 2. Toronto Eglinton was
represented by the team of SANDY, LARS,
FRED AND DR. DOUG (they shot an even par 72
- you would have thought they would have played better with
a Swede on the team), and BILL and Coral
MARTIN, WALTER WELLS and YOURS
TRULY (who tied for low mixed team at 66 - although
Coral turned out to be a ringer as she is a very fine golfer).
It was a great time except for one sad incident. I won’t
describe some of our drives but at the 18th tee there was a
protest by the SPCEW (Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Earth Worms). Bottom line is that the District
did an absolutely first-class job in organizing the tournament
and shouldn’t have any problem filling out foursomes in
2008.

Forest Hill. Donna Bonnick Fund - it had been
previously agreed that JOHN BONNICK would determine suitable

memory of Donna Bonnick, ($6,000). After considerable research,
John determined that Tiana Mohamed should receive $1,000 from
the Foundation account. The balance of her tuition will be paid
by another party.

reports that this year’s Bridge will start up on September
15. Singles and couples welcome. If interested, contact JOHN
at 416-987-8817.
-
A cheque presented to Afiya Chown of the Canada Mathare Education
Association will help four students attend school in Nairobi.
-
A reminder of the Sunset cruise on September 27.
See KATHRYN HOPE for tickets.
-
A new contest will be starting in September. If you get 100%
attendance or possibly close to that for each quarter, you will
be part of a draw for either Champagne or Aquavit. Make-ups
and club activities such as Board meetings and Bingo count as
a make-up. I think we can call this the ‘drive you to
drink’ contest.
Speaker
of the Week
JOHN
MCINTOSH introduced this week’s speaker, Kelly Clark.
Kelly is a teacher who leads the Who Is Nobody initiatives in schools.
The initiative teaches at-risk children respect through interaction.
Rotary, which is very active with this organization, can sponsor
a school with about $400 for a Who Is Nobody kit.
JOANNE
SMITH thanked the speaker.
Draw:
There was no
winner this week.
