Rotary has a connection with Canadian Idol
Mookie Morris visits the Toronto Eglinton Rotary Club

by Miriam Irwin

Today, on Wednesday September 24, 2008, the members of our Toronto Eglinton Rotary club paid close attention because Mookie Morris came to our lunch meeting. Mookie was entered in the Canadian Idol singing contest this year, and he came to thank club members for voting for him. He was the youngest male at 18, and the only Torontonian to go so far in the contest. He was among the final five.

Mookie sang and played five songs on his guitar, two of which were his own original compositions. Then he answered questions about his Idol experience. He is working hard on his first CD and hopes it will be ready for sale within the next six months.

His mother, Julie Wang Morris, has been a member of our club for the past 11 years, always adding her touch of enthusiasm to announcements and programs. She is a member of this year’s Board of Directors. She has worked on Home Hospitality for several years, providing a way for members to become better aquainted. Mookie is the youngest child in her family of four and she is proud of his success.

We congratulate him on his excellent showing in the competition, and wish him well in his future music career.
