Program

We had an impromptu meeting because our scheduled speaker, Dr. John Wright was a no show.

Vision Projects

President Mike attended a meeting with reference to proposals for major projects. The Vision Committee has scheduled their next meeting for March 1. They are willing to entertain more proposals for that meeting. They presently have received 5 proposals.

The Vision Committee will assemble a package for each member to be handed out on March 30th. Our regular April 20th luncheon is rescheduled for an evening gathering on that date and we will hear presentations from the members who submitted the proposals. The purpose is to narrow the field
and vote on the proposals. We have been advised not to vote if we are not satisfied with the proposal. Our goal is to ensure we choose projects that will be most effective for the community. Proxy voting will not be allowed for this occasion. The monies supporting these proposals have been raised from Ribfest with even a larger portion of the funds coming from bequests.

Springfest

The ramblings carried on with Bruce Pettit announcing that tickets for Springfest on March 27th are now available for sale. 450 tickets are available and each member is to take 10 tickets.
(45 members x 10 tickets= 450).

Kim enquired regarding entertainment for the event. President Mike advised that this year we will have a disc jockey with music for dancing. Gary commented that country music is necessary for the line dancers.

Some discussion ensued with reference on how some members have managed to sell so many tickets in the past.

Norm sold to Probus club members.

Chris has successfully sold the evening as a dance event; however, last year this may have backfired somewhat.

Ron sold tickets to Agincourt Hockey League and his neighbours. To promote his sales, Ron played up the party side of the event.

Bruce sold to his neighbours.

Josie is accepting requests for types of music desired. Also, Josie has a secret entertainer lined up.

Shirley hopes to have 114 plus items for patrons to purchase at the event.

Audrey reminded us that a table of 10 guarantees that the 10 guests will sit together.

Audrey held up the poster for Springfest and then went around to the show of hands at each table to distribute the required number of posters.

Chris encouraged members to sign up for Rotary International being held in June in Montreal . This is the closest location to our area for which we will be able to attend Rotary International in about the next 10 years.Montreal is readily accessible by train from Guildwood. We will be leaving on Saturday, June 19th, in order to be ready for start up on June 20th. The event runs 20th to 23rd with closing ceremonies on Wednesday evening, June 23rd. Return to Toronto June 24th. Come and have fun with Dolly Parton. Hotel rooms are available.

Attendance

Present at today's luncheon were 25 members and 5 guests.

Robin Meredith from Toronto East branch of BMO was guest of Mike Cooksey.

Phyllis Broadley was guest of Chris Musselman.

Ryan Johnson was guest of Karen Kimber. Ryan has recently joined Schindler

Elevator to assume Joseph Cachola's sales territory as Joseph is enjoying his new role as Sales Manager at Schindler.

We had two late arrival guests, Alex King a former Rotary member from Ghana and his friend Reg Oranye.

Open Membership Classification

Mike Cooksey reminded us that Fire Service personnel are welcome at Rotary.

Announcements

Geoff Dean is looking for volunteers for Camp Enterprise for the last weekend in May.

Ryan Rowland announced that the next family food drive will be held February 9th and reminded everyone to start thinking of food items they will bring in for the collection during our luncheon on that date.

Mike Cooksey would like all members to get advertising for Ribfest which is the first weekend in August. We can let the prospective advertisers know that 100,000 people will be attending this event.

Geoff advised that April 13th is the date of our luncheon at Winston Churchill Collegiate.

Woods-Cunningham Wheel

Guest Ryan gave a hearty spin of the wheel causing it to finally come to a stop at number 37. Josie held the lucky number; however her luck ran out on the second spin when the thingamajig failed to stop on an Ace.

Sergeant at Arms

Gerard requested money and collection assistance from late arrival, Adam, who readily admitted his guilt by depositing paper money into the void box.

Gerard announced that he was wearing a tie with two Canadian flags; February 15th is Flag Day in Canada. To the best of our knowledge Gerard made a huge donation and said he had more to say about the flag item later.

Alvin (AKA Albino) contributed to celebrate having delivered his classification talk.
(We know the feeling, Alvin.)

Josie is celebrating her Mom's 85th birthday.

Geoff is working on the 30th Camp Enterprise project and is 7 weeks away and counting until he goes to Trinidad.

Gene stood up with no money in his pockets; however, he is excited about wells in Zimbabwe. $25-30,000. has been allocated and another $25,000 is being provided by various other Rotary clubs. A comment overheard from the adjoining table was with reference to Gene being untruthful. We have yet to determine if it was regarding Gene not having any money or with reference to funding for the wells project.

Pat owned up to her late arrival.
