Eugene – International Service

Camp Enterprise is beyond one’s comprehension if one has not attended.

Projects include water gardens in Zimbabwe, Shirley’s campaign to eliminate slave trade with kids in Ghana, along with support from clubs in District 7070.

A separate bank account has been established to ensure funds remain available for the long term projects.
This committee is looking forward to July 1 and the new group.

President Mike explained the budget is for x-amount. International projects take up to two years and the directors want to ensure funding is available once the project is approved.

Gary – Fund Raising

This committee began in November with 15 or 16 members. A sub committee was formed with:
Don Hall, Gary McGregor, Al Nielsen, Buddy Ibe, Bruce Pettit and Mike Murton.

We are falling short on the number of advertisers/sponsors for Ribfest. If every member brought in $500 times 50 we would have $25,000. Members are encouraged to check if the local business that they support is willing to advertise at Ribfest. We then had a demonstration of a banner that is available for $500. Attendance at Ribfest is approximately 100,000.

Gary requested volunteers and would like to know who will come on Tuesday after Ribfest at 9:00 a.m., August 3rd to clean up the park. City of Toronto charges over $10,000 to perform the cleanup. Gary will order Pizza for lunch.

Geoff is concerned that there will not be enough members to perform the cleanup and will get Interact students to assist.

Jim suggested charging $1.00 for parking. It has been decided to have admission by voluntary donation.

Chris advised the beer tent is being managed by Mill Street Brewery.

Bob wondered what Jim Foster could do.

Robert – Club Service

This committee organizes luncheons, speakers and Bluffer publication.

  • Club BBQ is held in September.
  • Cakes and Ham sale before Christmas.
  • Christmas evening buffet.
  • Winter Pot Luck Social.
  • In May they organize a Dinner and Theatre Night.
  • President’s Night is $30.00 for Rotarians and $40.00 for guests.
  • Mike Cooksey offered to host the BBQ at his home in Toronto (not Arizona as was requested) should Bluffers Park not be available.

Geoff – Community & Vocational Service

  • Last year the Christmas Project helped twelve families.
  • Food drive events to help West Hill Community Services Food Bank.
  • Community Living Luncheon.
  • This committee has a strong emphasis on youth with two Interact Clubs.
  • Sponsorship of two trips for young people – Dominican Republic and Youth at Risk in Costa Rica.

  • West Hill disadvantaged youth.
  • The dictionaries program headed up by Donna Worden.
  • Service Above Self awards by Donna Worden which includes Police Services, Fire and EMS.
    Budget for 2010 is $22,000.

Announcements

Chris showed off a copy of the Bluffs Monitor with the colour Rotary Ribfest ad. Directly under the ad is mentioned the volunteer of the month, none other than our very own Gerard Baribeau.

Guildwood Day is on Saturday. Chris encouraged everyone to wear bright red and march in the parade.

Geoff presented a wrap up of Camp Enterprise stating that the 31st camp finished as the most successful to date. Attendance included 33 students from various secondary schools. Josie was a much appreciated last minute chaperone. Gerard is Mr. Fix It who looks after absolutely everything. Linda Ryder was there from Etobicoke.

Sydney represented Business and Personal Finance.
Eugene is simply astounding with young people. Eugene got all the students to sign a birthday card for a Great Grandmother.Gary was the banker. Ryan and Rocco got the most sponsors ever. Jim Foster created two carvings; one for Claremont Field Centre and one for Steve Gilchrest for three decades of work. 20 to 25 people make the event the success that it is. Lina designed the swanky sweat shirt given to all of the students.

The comment at the end that best summed up the event was: “You guys are from the world of business and make it real”.

Jim Foster admitted to being beat by a top accountant and financial advisor; however, Jim beat the hot rod racer. The next day a Beaver Valley resident called to mock Jim’s loss. No matter, Jim is out to beat the lot next year.

Woods/Cunningham Wheel

Information not available but there was no winner

Our guest, Tatjana spun the wheel to a 35 held by Gary whose spin ended in a 10 of hearts.

Sergeant-at-Arms – Gerard Baribeau

Bob Johnston paid for having worn his Masonic pin for the past two weeks and successfully passing it off as a Rotary pin until he found the rightful pin on one of his jackets, in his closet, this past week.

Gerard for an excellent Camp Enterprise.

Geoff is sorry for missing next week’s meeting.

Ron for a wonderful time he had a week ago with the Scarborough Historical Society when they toured the Scarborough Golf Club facility and learned how the golf course is run and about their environmental concerns.

Josie was thankful for being asked to help at Camp Enterprise and for Mom’s safe arrival from Philippines on a 19 hour flight.

Chris enjoyed Camp Enterprise.

Mike Cooksey enjoyed doing a make up sitting on the deck at the Balmy Beach Rotary Club in the Beaches.

John donated because Jim and John came in second in the business game at Camp Enterprise.

In the middle of it all we sang Happy Birthday to Judy.

Bruce Happy that Jim is still so optimistic.

President Mike paraded around in shorts happy that everyone is celebrating summer dress up.
