Club Program
Past, Present & Future

Last Week: Keith Ratchford - District Conference – Niagara Falls
This Week: President Mike Murton – End of Term Summary
July 6: President Bruce Pettit – Inaugural Address
June 13:

Kari Quinn-Humphrey - Alzheimer’s

President Mike warmly welcomed Charter Member Rod Freeman, who said grace, and senior members Grant Cooper and Case Bastmeyer, who to this scribe, made it feel like "Old Home Week!"

Great to see you fellows.

Program:

Keith Ratchford and Walter Stewart

President Mike introduced Keith Ratchford and Walter Stewart from the Oshawa Parkwoods Club. They presented an excellent computer video presentation highlighting the District 7070 Conference in Niagara Falls Oct 22-24, 2010.The keynote speaker will be David Forward, Chair of the International Children's Aide Foundation.

Lily Li - RYLA

Geoff Dean started the second part of our program by introducing Lily Li who is currently in first year Commerce at Queen's and who attended this year's RYLA meeting in Belleville under our Club's auspices.
A very articulate young woman, Lily said her experiences at RYLA convinced her that it was not groups of business people or doctors or other professions that made a difference in this world, but rather dedicated individuals of all kinds.

The most important 'take away' from her RYLA experience were of the people she met.

She thanked us for sponsoring her.

President Mike thanked her for her talk with a gift of a book, and thanked her for being such a good emissary of our Club.

Announcements

Audrey needed final count of attendees for President's Night and reminded us of time--6pm cocktails for dinner at 7pm.

Josie is looking for gift donations for our Ribfest entertainers who are performing free on our behalf.

Woods/Cunningham Wheel

Case Bastmeyer celebrated his return by having his number selected and NEARLY spun the ace. Too bad!

Sergeant-at-Arms – Gerard Baribeau

No fines! Just Happy Bucks:

Bob Johnston
was happy to see our Rotarian veterans back and was pleased to ask his table mates to remind him to take home his folder from under his seat.

Norm Rhora celebrated reaching "76 trombones" although doubtful about reaching "110 cornets".
Go for it, Norm!

Don Hall expressed happiness at seeing so many ex-presidents of the Club in attendance and kidded Rod Freeman into making a contribution---which he generously (?) did. Unfortunately the editor did not have a camera to record this rare event for posterity.

Josie contributed for Philippine Independence Day, June 19 which is celebrated until July 4th. (I have grand-kids who celebrate birthdays this way!).

Grant Cooper
contributed for his Rotary welcome after determining he could match Rod's donation.

Gerard was happy for the support at the Highland Creek Heritage Parade on Saturday.

Finally, President Mike contributed for son Spike who is celebrating his birthday in Nassau and therefore not available for President's Night with the family.

Celebrations

June 27 Anne Ellis-Taylor – Club Anniversary
July 1 Audrey McCaskill – Club Anniversary
July 2 Don Hall – Club Anniversary
July 2 Mike Cooksey – Happy Birthday

President's Night – June 25, 2010

Approximately 50 attendees enjoyed a wonderful evening. The prime rib entrée was incredible and the cheese cake dessert was to die for. Food was not the only highlight of the evening. There were two well deserved presentations and the induction of a new member:

  • Rotarian of the Year – Sydney Baxter Dennis
  • Paul Harris Fellow – Gerard Baribeau
  • New Member Induction - Ishrani Annamunthodoo

Congratulations to all three.

Next came the roast/toast of President Mike. This was superbly done by Mike Cooksey, Bruce Pettit and Don Hall. If you weren’t there to see Mike Cooksey in action you do not know what you missed

The evening finished with dancing and fellowship.

Congratulations to Audrey for a job well done.
