Leading
to Reading Programme

The
Rotary Club of Scarborough has donated $12,500 to help the
Cedarbrae
Public Library's "Leading to Reading" Programme
get on its feet. The club
felt that one of the biggest needs in our community is the
development of our
children. The Leading to Reading programme fills a gap that
the schools
cannot address effectively, namely, in a multicultural urban
environment, how
do you help the individual children in the class whose language
and reading
skills are below the grade level. The library provides an
environment for
learning, along with books and other tools and encourages
volunteers from the
community to come in and help on a one to one basis. The donation
will help
the programme develop and bring much-needed help for the reading
and language
skills that the children need to succeed. |
