Rotarians in District 7070 made the world aware that October 24 was World Polio Day in District 7070, thanks to the coordination from Clubs led by District 7070 World Polio Day Chair, Jennifer Boyd. Here are just some of the highlights.....

Here are just some of the events in Rotary District 7070 (Southern Ontario) that occurred on World Polio Day, coordinated by our District 7070 World Polio Day Chair Jennifer Boyd:

  • The CN Tower, the Toronto sign at Toronto City Hall, and Niagara Falls were lit up red, white and yellow.
 
  • Jennifer Boyd and fellow Rotarians from all over the District were at Toronto City Hall at the Toronto City Hall (Podium roof of Toronto City Hall) 100 Queen St West, Toronto, ON M5H 2N2  for speeches and the flag raising ceremony
 
 
  • On Radio - World Polio Day announcements:
    • Roger Ashby on CHUM-FM 104.5 from 5:30 am to 9 am
    • John Derringer on Q107 from 5:30 am to 10 am
    • Terry Johnston in Oshawa on CKDO 1580 AM interviewed Past Rotary International PolioPlus Committee Chair , Dr Bob Scott and 107.7 FM from 5:30 am to 9 am
  • On TV  - news items on CP24 from: Richard Perry, News Producer at Toronto's Breaking News,CP24.
  • There were lots of tweets to promote Rotary and World Polio Day like these:
  • Flag raising ceremonies were held in Markham and Richmond Hill and other locations in the District 7070.
 
  • Flag raising ceremonies were held in Ajax (at the Town Hall) and in Toronto on Oct 24 at 11 am., in Oshawa on Oct 22- 24, and at Durham Regional Headquarters on Oct 21 - 25 with all 10 Rotary Clubs in Durham Region on hand 
 
 
  • Proclamations were handed out in Oshawa on Oct 24, in the new Global Classroom of Durham College in from of 120 Rotarians and guests,during a World Polio Day livestream event, seen all around the world by Rotarians.  Proclamations from the Region of Durham will be handed out on Oct 24 to the 10 Rotary Clubs (Oshawa, Oshawa-Parkwood, Whitby, Whitby-Sunrise, Ajax, Pickering, Port Perry, Uxbridge, Bowmanville, and Courtice) and the Rotaract Club of Durham College-UOIT, and to many of the Rotary Clubs by Mayor of Oshawa and by many other Mayors in towns and cities of Durham Region . The Rotary Club of Port hope was also at the Durham College livestream event and received a proclamation from their mayor. Another story follows on the livestream event .
