Charter Night for The New Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth

 

The Charter of the newest Rotary Club in southern Ontario, The Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth, was presented on December 9, 2016 at the Royal Canadian Legion , 9 Dawes Road, Toronto at the Charter Night Gala to Charter President Farid Uddin Khan Siddiqui, it was announced today by Jim Louttit, the Rotary International Governor of District 7070.

More than 175 Rotarians and guests were on hand for at the Charter Night Gala including 60 visiting Rotarians from 40 Rotary Clubs and were welcomed with open arms by the new club members.

We were welcomed by every member of the club and their Charter President Farid Uddin Khan Siddiqui chaired the event with much grace and honour.

The presentation of the Charter to the Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth, was made by Rotary International District Governor Jim Louttit with the Past President of Rotary International, Wilf Wilkinson along side, at the Charter Night Gala, December 9, 2016. All of the 40 charter members received their charter member kits from Past Rotary International president Wilf Wilkinson and 6 new memebrs were also inducted during the evening;s festivities. PRIP Wilf brought greetings from our current Rotary International President Jihn Germ and called the Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth the newest vehicle for service in Rotary.

District Governor Jim Louttit, Past Vice President of Rotary International Bob Scott, Past District Gover and District 7070 Chair of membership Extension Ted Koziel, District Giovernor Elect Neil Philips, District Governor Nominee mary Lou Harrison all welcomed the new Rotary Club to District 7070. And a very special thanks goes to the sponsoring club the Rotary club of Toronto Sunrise and their president Calrk Ferguson along with the Assistant Governor Aziz Saleh for helping with the creation of the Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth.

 

The Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth was chartered on October 13, 2016 as the 55th Rotary Club in District 7070 (southern Ontario) and its members consist of 40 Bangladeshi immigrants. The Club will be led by their Charter President Farid Uddin Khan Siddiqui who joined Rotary in Bangladesh in 1990 and has been a Rotarian for the last 26 years. And the food served at the Gala Charther Night Event reflected on the culture of the newest Rotary club in District 7070.

The Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Toronto Sunrise, under the leadership of their President Clark Ferguson, District Governor Jim Louttit , and Rotary District 7070 Chair of Membership Extension, Past District Governor Ted Koziel.

Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Member of Parliament for Beaches-East York; Arthur Potts, Member of Provincial Parliament for Beaches-East York attended the gala evening and brought greetings from the Govenments of Canada and the Province of Ontario, respectively. Janet Davis, the City of Toronto Councillor for Ward 31 Beaches-East York attended the gala evening and brought greetings from the City of Toronto.

 

Many other Rotary Dignitaries: Past District Governors, Assistant District Governors, Rotary International District 7070 Committee Chairs, and Rotary Club Presidents from Clubs all over the District wished the new club the very best in their community and international service projects.

Rotary connects 1.2 million members from 200 countries and geographical regions. And the new Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth is the newest of the 35,000 Rotary Clubs whose charitable work impacts lives both at the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities in the GTA, to working toward a polio-free world.
