August is here! Where did July go?
August is Membership and New Club Development month in Rotary. The perfect time to say to each and everyone of you, Thank You for making a difference in the world! Your dedication to the values of Rotary and commitment to “Service Above Self” has made Rotary the great organization it is today.
I challenge you to pick up the phone and call at least one member in your club that you have not seen for a while and connect with them!
RI President Jennifer Jones underscores the importance of member engagement, she goes on to say that engaging members is crucial to retaining members, adding that we need to ask members what they want to get from Rotary and give them meaningful responsibilities. “It is our offer of hands-on service, personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong friendships that creates purpose and passion”.
Jennifer is asking us to raise Rotary’s profile in the world by creating 2 new innovative or cause based clubs this year based on the philosophy of comfort and care. “We have been entrusted with leadership in our great organization”. “Now it is up to us to be brave and intentional in our actions, and let others help us lead.” Make sure to weave diversity, equity and inclusion in Rotary, out of the box thinking comes out of diversity, this will help us achieve the highest levels of excellence.
Extra Opportunity to Apply for District Grants
The District is about to send in its application for District Grants for the 2022-23 Rotary year to the Rotary Foundation. However, before submitting it, we are offering Rotary and Rotaract Clubs a final opportunity to apply for a District Grant. New potential District Grant projects may have come up at the beginning of the new Rotary year.
District Grants can be used for short term projects locally and around the world. The District is encouraging through the matching formula Clubs to cooperate. The rules for this round are the same as for the applications sent to the District by May 31 2022, and the 2022-23 application form must be used. Clubs that want to apply for a District Grant must be qualified. We are returning to some sort of normal after two years of COVID, more clubs are meeting in person and returning to their traditional fundraising.
At the Whitby Ribfest, with PDG Mark, and DGE John. The local population came out in droves to enjoy some tasty ribs, watch wrestling, listen to some great music and enjoy a few of the Brock Street Brewing Company’s best.
Earlier in the month at Coburg's Waterfront Festival with Andrew discussing strategies to increase donations at the entrance.
My visits will continue this month, look forward to meet as many Rotarians from our District as I can, see you at one of the fundraisers or visit this coming month!
