Hello District 7070 Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors!
August is Membership and Club Development Month and District 7070 has a running start in growing our membership! Rotary International President, Shekhar Mehta, challenged every Rotarian to “Each one Bring one” and every Rotary District to form 2 new Rotary and / or Rotaract Clubs.
Well for District 7070 that’s one down and one to go!
The GOALS (Global Outreach and Local Service) Rotary Club was chartered on June 23rd, 2021 to form the 56th Rotary Club of our Rotary District! I had the pleasure of “pinning” Charter President, Heather Drakes (while volunteering at the Whitby Sunrise drive thru Ribest) with her shiny new President’s pin!
The GOALS RC will be an online club with members from different countries and even different continents. Stay tuned as President Heather and her club are working on their plans for a fabulous Charter Meeting in the very near future!
Virginia O’Reilly and the District Membership Committee have been busy getting ready for this new Rotary Year providing another set of great “Grow Rotary” and new Member Zoom events. Next up on the calendar on Aug 25th 7pm is a “New Members” Zoom meeting. This is an opportunity to meet the new members of other clubs, share ideas and network. Keep an eye on the District Calendar for more Grow Rotary and New Member events for the 2021-2022 Rotary Year. We’ve made the District Calendar easier to find as it’s the Events Calendar tab on the top line of the menu bar when you open the District 7070 website!
Speaking of Membership Development, want to “Each one, Bring One” on social media! Join us for our August Tuesday Talks on Tuesday, August 10th at 7pm as Melissa Wells will provide you with many tips to make your online presence elevated in your local community (and around the world if you want!) Whether it’s attracting your community to support your events or attracting interested potential members or bringing in donations for your community and international projects, this Tuesday Talks is for you! Be sure to go to the Events Calendar and register for Tuesday Talks!
As the Covid pandemic continues to fade as the new case numbers decrease I am looking forward to getting back together in person- handshakes and hugs! My first “in person” / hybrid meeting is on Wednesday, August 18th at 7:15am in Stirling (with Quinte Sunrise joining via Zoom) where Stirling President, Lianne Radocsay, promised me a “hearty breakfast” in the Train Station! While many of our DG visits will be Zoom or hybrid I look forward to getting out to your community to in person events over the course of the Rotary year!
