Hello District 7070 Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors!

November is Rotary Foundation Month!

District 7070 got off to a great start for Rotary Foundation Month with the Trenton Rotary Club and the Rotary Clubs of Region 1 hosting the 2021 Rotary Foundation Walk starting at beautiful Centennial Park at the Trenton waterfront.  The Covid rules at the time only allowed us to have 100 participants for the 9am walk and another 100 for the 1pm afternoon walk.  It was great to see all the pictures from across the district of the local walks that many of our District 7070 Clubs hosted.  Records of the donations are still coming in but looks like the 2021 Rotary Foundation Walks brought in over $100,000 for the Rotary Foundation Annual Fund.  A heart felt thank you to Sandi Ramsey, Trenton Rotary Club President, Liane Radocsay, Stirling Rotary Club President, Gordon Bunt, Trenton Rotarian and the rest of the Region 1 Rotary Clubs and the Rotary Foundation Walk committee for a great event!  Stay tuned for the 2022 Rotary Foundation Walk in Durham Region!

World Polio Day 2021 in District 7070 was another great success.  We got started earlier in October with many End Polio flag raisings and World Polio Day Proclamations around District 7070.  To the left are the Durham Region Rotary Club Presidents at the Durham Regional Flag Raising.

Then on Thursday, October 21 at 7pm we held the 4th World Polio Day livestream from the Rotary Global Classroom at Durham College.  David Andrews, District Public Image Chair & Past President of the Oshawa Parkwood Rotary Club, Trish Best Past President of the Oshawa Rotary Club and Dr. Bob Scott, Chair Emeritus of the International Polio Plus Committee hosted an amazing livestream event that included a panel of Shekhar Mehta, RI President, Valarie Wafer RI Vice President, Mike McGovern, Chair of the International Polio Plus Committee and Dr Tunji Funsho, National Chair of the Nigeria Polio Plus Committee.  If you missed the livestream this is the link https://durhamcollege.ca/globalclass/class/rotary-international-2021-world-polio-day/ to view.

I had the pleasure of receiving the World Polio Day proclamation from Toronto Mayor John Tory followed by the End Polio Flag Raising on Friday, October 22 , 11am at Toronto City Hall with DGE Iosif Ciosa and District 7070 World Polio Day Chair, Jennifer Boyd of the Scarborough Passport Rotary Club.

Tuesday Talks - As November is Foundation Month, District 7070 Foundation Chair, Bob Wallace invites us to Tuesday Talks to watch and hear "It's your money, here are ways to spend it". Please join us as Bryn Stiles (Past Rotary International Director and this year's aide to the RI President for 2021-22, Shekhar Mehta) will show us where Rotary Foundation money is spent and the benefits. Then we will see and hear from a Rotary Foundation Scholar, Dr. Charlotte Hunter, a family physician with a special interest in HIV/AIDS care. She currently works at the St. Michael's Hospital Academic Family Health Team and at Casey House. She is also the District 7070 Global Grant Scholarship recipient for 2020-2021. She completed her MSc Public Health degree at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in London, UK.
