In her September 2024 Newsletter, District 7070 Governor Virginia O'Reilly talks about her visit to the Rotary Club of Belleville and finding new ideas (take a look at one that she found). Virginia reminds us that September is Basic Education and Literacy Month and urges us to find projects to share with your club. The Jasper Fire fund still needs our help. She asks us to register for the District Conference in October, the Rotary Foundation Walk in Newmarket and she asks us to book a date that she can come to your club for her official visit. She has asked us to make the Magic of Rotary come alive with every project we work on, every donation we make, every time we collaborate to improve the lives and conditions of the people in our communities, both local and globally .......      .

Greetings  Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and Earlyactors,  !!.  Here we are at the beginning of September!  Has everyone had a wonderful summer?

A few highlights…

I visited the Belleville Club this week where I was pleased to be witness to the induction of two new Rotarians, Julia Ross and Amanda Smith.  Welcome to Rotary, Julia and Amanda!!

A neat thing about Club visits is finding ideas that are ‘light bulbs’ and I discovered one in Belleville.  President Karen Baker decided to acknowledge a Rotarian from the Club, one Angel each month.  The August recipient is Rotarian Jared Bellemare, a recent member of the Club joining in December 2023.  In a few short months, he has truly demonstrated what it means to be a Rotarian and to put Service Above Self.  It was a Magic Moment to be at the Belleville Club for the Angel presentation to Jared!!

September

September is Basic Education and Literacy Month in Rotary.  Check My Rotary for project ideas or stories to share with your Club.  As well, our District 7070 has an Action Committee for Basic Education & Literacy headed by Joan Barrett of the Scarborough Club.  Reach out to the Committee for ideas for a project or share your projects with them so they can pass them on to other Clubs.

Make the Magic of Rotary come alive…every project we work on, every donation we make, every time we collaborate to improve the lives and conditions of the people in our communities, both local and globally.  You are the Magic!!  Make the Magic and Share the Magic – Your Magic is a great story to share with prospective members.

Consider a donation to the Jasper Fire Relief Fund.  In response to the tragic Jasper Wildfire, the Rotary District 5370 Charitable Foundation has established the Fund to help rebuild the community of Jasper.  Read more in PDG Bob Wallace’s message.

Three DG asks this month, please…

  1.  Register for the District Conference in Alliston at Nottawasaga Resort Inn & Convention Centre on October 25 to 27th .  Great speakers – a Polio survivor, an environmental advocate, hands on project, visit the Peace Pole

  2. The Foundation Walk is on October 6th in Newmarket at Fairy LakeThe Foundation Walk is organized to support the Rotary Foundation, our own Charitable Foundation.   The walk helps raise funds and awareness for our projects locally and around the world.   Check out the District website for details. https://rotary7070.org/events/copy-of-district-7070-rotary-foundation-walk-2024/

  3. Book a date for the District Governor Club visit with your Assistant Governor and connect with Sonya Chouljian (rotarysonya3@gmail.com) who is organizing the DG calendar.

Please remember that September is the time for return to local schools for our children.  We all have a responsibility to keep the children safe!  Drive with extra care!!

Thank you!
