PHOTIS PHILOS - ROTARY CLUB OF TORONTO LEASIDE
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Photis Philos (Filargyropoulos), beloved husband and father. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece on August 6, 1946, he grew up in the Athenian suburb of Vyronas where times were difficult but the carefree camaraderie with the neighbourhood kids resulted in 70+ years of friendships. Friendship was important to Photis, which is why soon after immigrating to Toronto he changed his last name to Philos (meaning friend in Greek). The Leaside community will remember him for his 35 year career as the owner of Bell Jewellers, where he earned the nickname “the Mayor of Bayview”. Every customer was his friend. He passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on August 31, 2023. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years Georgia, daughters Theodora (Robert), Eleni (Babis) and Evangelia (Howard), his sister Marina (George), nieces and countless friends in Canada, Greece and the USA. May his memory be eternal.

BOB HEGADORN - ROTARY CLUB OF OSHAWA
Bob peacefully passed away at home on August 31, 2023, in his 100th year. He was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth (1973) and his second wife Louise (2010). Beloved father of Robert C. Hegadorn, Deborah Anderson (Kevin), Frank Briggs (Lana), and Barry Briggs (Mary).Loving grandfather of Matthew Thompson (Natasha), Patrick Thompson (Madison), Maxwell Briggs, and Samuel Briggs. Bob will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.Bob reluctantly retired from General Motors in 1989, after many years of dedicated service.
He served the community for four decades with the Rotary Club of Oshawa , enjoyed gardening, baking, and always had a cup of tea at hand. Bob was a collector of all things, and a devoted lover of animals . His funeral was held at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME (124 King St. E., Oshawa)on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
BILL STIRLING - ROTARY CLUB OF OSHAWA:
Bill passed away peacefully at Amica Whitby on Sunday September 17, 2023, 3 weeks into his 96th year. Bill was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy for 57 years, and much-loved father of the late Bill (Dawne) of Calgary, Bob (Karen) of Whitby, and Margaret Bennett (Stephen) of Georgetown.He was the cherished Grandad of Jessica, Danny, Tori, Lauren, Madie and Ally, and Great Grandad of Kaylee and Brooklyn.
Bill graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and went on to enjoy a distinguished 40-year career with General Motors of Canada, culminating in his role as the Director of GM of Canada Plant Engineering. His proudest accomplishment was achieved in 1988 as one of the team leaders that oversaw the planning and construction of the GM of Canada Headquarters building on Colonel Sam Drive.
Bill was actively involved in the community, most notably as a proud and longstanding member of the Rotary Club of Oshawa. Bill was a former Rotary District 7070 Rotary Group Study Exchnage Leader, leading a group of non-Rotarians to Japan, and he was also very involved with Rotary Youth Exchange in Rotary District 7070 .
He was an avid golfer and curler at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club and annually, went on Rotary Golf trips with fellow Rotarians, to Myrtle Beach. But by far, his most cherished social activities revolved around following his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Toronto Argonauts. Those of us left behind are hoping that he can now provide some divine intervention to help the success of his teams.
