Here is a note from Michael Soo Chan, a polio survivor who attended the Rotary Club of Ajax March 21, 2024 meeting which highlighted Kimberly Smith, Coordinator Polio Canada & National Programs, Community Programs, Skill Development and Employment of March of Dimes Canada and their outstanding work.:
Hello Everyone,
On behalf of the Durham Polio Chapter, we wish to thank Kimberly Smith of March of Dimes Canada and Sanjeev Agnihotri, polio survivor for today’s interesting and informative presentations. Living with polio is a lifelong challenge which everyone can attest to after hearing Sanjeev’s presentation. For polio survivors, the onset of post-polio syndrome in later life presents a new set of symptoms which can be even more devastating. Post-Polio Canada continues to link polio survivors and their caregivers to peer support groups nation-wide. The program focuses on providing valuable information, resources and support to people with post-polio syndrome and the community.
Also, thanks to Ajax Rotary for hosting today’s event at the Ajax Library, Ajax, ON. Special thanks to Ken Hurst, Ron Larock, Donna Bright and others for their wonderful hospitality. Rotary International is a global network, and was a pioneer in the fight against polio worldwide. It started its efforts in 1978 with the goal of eradicating polio and continues its support to this day.
On Behalf of Durham Polio Chapter
Michael Soo-Chan
