ShelterBox Update MARCH 2022:

LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW ROTARIANS ARE HELPING GET CLEAN WATER TO THOSE IMPACTED BY DISASTER

Water, just like shelter, is a human right. When disasters devastate whole communities and force people from their homes, it can be hard to ensure access to clean water. This International Water Day, March 22, 2022 at 1:00pm EST ShelterBox Canada is hosting an expert led panel discussion for Rotarians on why our water filters are a vital piece of aid, and how they have evolved to better serve disaster impacted communities.

Rotarians play a pivotal in ShelterBox operations from helping us fundraise, supporting on the ground response logistics, and even fine tuning our aid equipment. The most recent iteration of ShelterBox's water filter was designed by a fellow Rotarian, John Griffith, through the The Safe Water Trust Ltd, a not-for-profit company which is the outcome of a Rotary project. John and his Rotarian friends successfully created new filter designs which met the requirements for a sustainable and environmentally friendly household water treatment solution.

At ShelterBox, we’re committed to continual learning and improvement. That’s why we re-assess each aid item and how it’s supplied at least every 3 years. The previous model of water filter worked well, however,

we wanted to find a product that could filter more water within its lifespan to meet Sphere Humanitarian Standards. Did you know that 15 litres of clean water is required per person per day for drinking, cooking and household needs? This means 2,325 litres of water is the amount that a family of 5 would require for 1 month. Join us on March 22, 2022 for more insights about our new water filter from experts in the field and how you can help ensure communities impacted by disaster have access to safe drinking water.

ShelterBox and Rotary are official project partners in international disaster relief. ShelterBox is a registered charity independent of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation.  Since  2012, we have been neighbours, friends and community leaders. Their aim is to create positive, lasting change in communities at home and all over the world.project partners with Rotary International, a global community of 1.2 million. Rotary has supported ShelterBox from the start when a local club championed the simple idea to package up essential shelter items in our now-iconic ShelterBoxes. As ShelterBox grew, so did Rotary support, and we are now international project partners in disaster relief. This partnership has helped us to become who we are today. Our global network of ShelterBox affiliates, which provides all-round assistance, evolved from Rotary relationships.
