To embrace current technology and to be a resource to all members of Zone’s 28/32, the Rotary International Director newsletter has been transitioned to an interactive blog style format that will be managed and moderated by the Zone leadership team. Look for the "In The Zone" June 2026 video from Christine Etienne, our Rotary International Director, in our June 2026 Rotary District 7070 Newsletter (when it becomes available) , and on the Rotary Zone 28 and 32 website.
This month, Chris talks about the international Convention in Taipei, Rotary Fellowships , and says what a privilege and honour it was to serve as our Director of Rotary Zones 28 and 32 for the last two year. She adds that she is very impressed with the influence we have on communities with our many projects, and partnerships. Chris introduced us to our new District Marty Helman from Booth Bay, Maine (who has been a trustee fof the Rotary Foundation for the last 4 years. Marty thanked Chris for her dedication and leadership over the last 2 years. Marty said that the world needs us now more than ever. She recognized the many challenges we have today. We have to make changes. She added that the methodology of the 20th century does not work in the 21st century. Welcome to summer!
Here we are in the last month of our 2025-2026 Rotary year. As we approach the end of June, we thank all of our leaders at the club, district and international levels for moving our organization forward and embracing our message Unite for Good. We have truly exemplified this message with the many programs and partnerships that are changing so many lives in our local communities and across the globe.
As we reflect on doing good in the world this year, we likewise focus on continuity and collaboration as we support our incoming Rotary leaders. Congratulations to all of our incoming Rotary leaders including our club presidents and district governors. I encourage all of us to support our incoming leaders and work together to continue to make a difference and embrace our Rotary message for the 2026-2027 Rotary year…Create Lasting Impact.
As I conclude my term as your Rotary International Director, I thank you for the opportunity to represent the members throughout our vast geographic region of Zones 28 and 32. I have met so many amazing Rotary members who exemplify our motto of Service Above Self and am grateful for the many new friendships. It has been an honor!
It is now my pleasure to welcome Marty Peak Helman as our new Rotary International Director. Marty is from Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and below is a bit more about Marty. She will serve us well and please read up about her Impact Tour which begins July 1. Details are on our website.
Marty Helman spent her career as a writer for business executives and as a magazine editor at McGraw-Hill and the American Management Association. Later, she served as president of the Otto and Fran Walter Foundation, a nonprofit that has helped build schools in developing nations, provided scholarships for at-risk youth, and supplied humanitarian aid to Holocaust survivors, among other initiatives. The Walter Foundation partnered with The Rotary Foundation to fund the Rotary Peace Center at Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, which opened in 2025.
Marty and her late husband, Frank, joined the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor in 2003.
She has served Rotary as Rotary Foundation Trustee, and as chair of the Fund
Development Committee and Peace-Major Gifts Initiative. She chaired a working group designed to increase corporate gifts to The Rotary Foundation, and she served on another task force with a goal to better align our Foundation grant policies with 21st century needs. She was a member of the teams that selected the sites for the Rotary Peace Centers at Bahçeşehir and Symbiosis Universities, and she has earned The Rotary Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award.
Marty is an Arch Klumph Society member, and she chooses to support Rotary as a member of the Paul Harris Society and PolioPlus Society. She and Frank were charter members of the Legacy Society of The Rotary Foundation.
