To embrace current technology and to be a resource to all members of Zone’s 28/32, the Rotary International Director newsletter has been transitioned to an interactive blog style format that will be managed and moderated by the Zone leadership team. Greetings Rotary Family,

During the month of March, we celebrate one of our seven areas of focus – water, sanitation and hygiene. When people have access to clean water and sanitation, waterborne diseases decrease, children stay healthier and attend school more regularly, and mothers can spend less time carrying water and more time helping their families.

Since 2013, The Rotary Foundation has invested more than $130 million in over 2000 projects worldwide. Through this investment, our volunteers of action have improved access to safely managed and basic WASH services to communities, schools and healthcare facilities, while protecting and conserving water resources.  For example, Rotary clubs partnered with local organizations to install a rainwater harvesting and distribution center for 4,000 people in Papua New Guinea. They also delivered training programs for women in the community and students in 35 schools.  Our efforts are improving lives and building strong communities.  Are you interested in getting more involved in supporting water, sanitation and hygiene projects?  Consider joining the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Rotary Action Group, www.wash-rag.org.

As I close, please remember to celebrate our Rotaractors during World Rotaract Week March 9-15.  As we continue to elevate Rotaract, they can now participate in Rotary grants, serve on district, RI and Rotary Foundation committees, set goals in Rotary Club Central and receive Rotary and Rotary Foundation awards.  Thank you to our Rotaractors for their service and making a difference locally and globally.

Director Chris

Plans for our 2026 One Rotary/15 Nations Cancun Summit continue.

Keynoter Jenkins Vaugehn will kick off the program with a keynote on leadership and heroism. Vaugehn is a retired Liberian diplomat who served at the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia for two decades. He is recognized for his courageous work during Liberia's 14-year civil war and he is credited with playing a major role in drafting the ceasefire that ended the war in 2003. He also is an unsung hero who personally helped save thousands of lives and maintained a strong U.S.-Liberian relationship during one of Africa's worst conflicts. In 2021, the U.S. Department of State named him a "Hero of U.S. Diplomacy" for his dedication to advancing peace, democracy, and security in Liberia.
